Seeing Red

A flash of red rocketed across my line of sight and took me by surprise.

The cardinal winged its way above the road and quickly disappeared into the woods.

That split second of color in an otherwise snow-washed February landscape changed my drive home.

I started to see other small splashes of red.

Red coats on school children waiting for the bus.

A red wooden wishing well perched in a yard.

Mailbox with red flag raisedA raised red mailbox flag.

Red plastic brake light covers on parked cars.

A realtor’s red for-sale sign.

A red front door wreath.

Most of this red is not new to the neighborhood.

But I rarely consciously notice it.

It took a bird photobombing my morning drive to get me to see.

What else have I been missing?
